The use of Sandpaper Racquets or paddles has a long history in the world of Table Tennis. With the advent of the newfangled rubbers with unnatural spins, the popularity of traditional surfaces on table tennis racquets dropped sharply. Sandpaper paddles began to fade from use and then as an almost final blow, sandpaper was not approved as a sanctioned racquet surface for Table Tennis.
